DR. TIM R. BROWN, PharmD, is employed by Akron General Medical Center's Department of Pharmacy as Director of Clinical Pharmacotherapy at West Side Family Practice. He is also an Associate Professor at North East Ohio University College of Medicine.

Editor

DR. MARK BLEGEN, Ph.D, completed his master’s of science degree at St. Cloud State(1996) in Minnesota and his Ph.D. in exercise physiology at Kent State University(2001) in Ohio. His areas of specialty include environmental physiology and athletic performance. Dr.Blegen is currently the head of the Exercise Science Program at Mount Union College in Alliance, OH.

ANASTASIA L. TRESSLER, MS, MEd., is the Coordinator of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Akron General Medical Center. In addition to being certified as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Licensed as a Professional Counselor, she is an adjunct professor at Mount Union College in the Exercise Physiology Department. Anastasia also serves as a researcher/columnist for several fitness publications.

MITZI HORN, MSN, CFNP, is a Lecturer of Nursing Assistant Director, at the Learning Resource Center Frances Paine Bolton School of Nursing of Case Western Reserve University, in Ohio.

Nutrition and Sports Nutrition

LESLIE J. BONCI, M.P.H., R.D., is currently the director of Sports Medicine Nutrition Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, she is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh as well as guest lecturer to many other Universities. Leslie serves as the American Dietetic Association of Media spokesperson since 1996 and is President of the Pittsburgh Dietetic Association. She is the nutrition consultant of the Pittsburgh Steelers, RiverHounds, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics, Notre Dame Department of Athletics, University of Texas Department of Athletics, U.S. Olympic Canoe and Kayak team, professional baseball players, and professional figure skaters. In her spare time, she is a nutrition consultant to National Universities, the National Athletic Trainers Association, and other professional sports teams.

She holds 20 years of experience in respiratory care, and specializes in smoking cessation and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

KRISTIA KNOWLES, PT, is a Licensed Physical Therapist who received her Masters in Physical Therapy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to her physical therapy occupation, she is a certified personal trainer and continues a career in fitness modeling. Kristia also has appeared on the cover of numerous magazines including American Health and Fitness, Oxygen, Muscle and Fitness, Muscle and Fitness for Her, among many others. In 2002 she was voted Muscle and Fitness Model of the Year. She is involved in fitness competitions, of which her team won the world title in Las Vegas in 2001. BUDDY MORRIS is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Cleveland Browns. Before he came to Cleveland, he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Pittsburgh where he trained and developed thirteen first-round NFL draft picks and fifteen first team All-Americans including nine-time Pro Bowler Dan Marino who had this to say about Buddy " I worked with Buddy for four years and he was very instrumental in helping me develop my strength and conditioning skills, he was a big part of the success we had here at (The University of) Pittsburgh. During his tenure with the Panthers, Pitt appeared in three bowl games. Morris has also helped Curtis Martin, of the New York Jets, as well as 2-time Olympic gold medalist Roger kingdom. Prior to this, Buddy was the director of Horizon Hospital System in Sharon, PA. for eight years.

ADAM HODGES is the online editor for the Colorado Triathlete magazine and coaches masters swimming at the University of Colorado. He has competed in triathlon for over a dozen years, and has raced in world championships for triathlon, duathlon, and the Hawaii Ironman. MICHAEL DUFFY, PT, CSCS, is a Physical Therapist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is employed by Akron General Medical Center as an orthopedic physical therapist at Akron General Sports and Physical Therapy in Akron, Ohio.

NED HAMAD JR. received his degree in Sports Medicine from Mount Union College in Alliance, OH, where he played for the National Championship Football Team and received two National Championship Rings. He is currently a personal trainer at Akron General Lifestyles, the Health and Wellness Center developed and built by Akron General Hospital, where he created Fittest Lifestyles, an Nova 7 Award Nominee 12 week program combining aerobic, strength, and nutrition which is run twice a year. He is currently working with Akron General in developing sports conditioning camps for football players and all athletes.

DR. LONNIE M. LOWERY holds a Ph.D. in exercise physiology from Kent State University, where he also served as Assistant Professor of Nutrition before incorporating Nutrition, Exercise and Wellness (N.E.W.) Associates, which he now directs. Dr. Lowery performed research on sports supplements for approximately ten years prior to his more recent focus of educating the public on the issue in an unbiased way. He currently develops software and educational materials for major academic textbook publishers and he authors numerous lay articles for popular fitness magazines. He has consulted on research and education issues for a number of industry-leading dietary supplement companies. SHAWN RAY became a bodybuilder at the age of 16 while training for football at a gym in Placentia, California, where he met legendary bodybuilder, two time Mr. Universe and three time Mr. World, John Brown, who helped shape his career. He earned his first Pro Card at the age of 22 and went on to win the Mr. California and the National Championships. At the age of 23 he qualified for Mr. Olympia and went on to win the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio. From there he would compete in 12 Mr. Olympias placing as high as second place and only out of the top five once, his first year in Mr. Olympia. ROB WILKINS, from Linden, N.J., has served as a Special Assistant for the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) since 1994. MARK W. FEAKES, CPT-NSCA, is currently the Health & Fitness Manager of Akron General Hospital's LifeStyles, located in Akron, Ohio. LifeStyles has been named by Club Industry as the number one Medically Based Health & Wellness Center in the Country four years in a row. As LifeStyles first Personal Training Coordinator he developed the staff training protocols and formalized the business practices currently in use. Prior to joining LifeStyles Mark trained bodybuilders and fitness competitors to national qualification while operating his own personal training business. Mark also operates two karate schools and is himself a 4th degree black belt. He was the International Kickboxing Federation Light Cruiserweight, 2001 USA National Tournament Champion, two time Ohio State Champion, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic 2000 Millennium Man Light Heavy Weight Kickboxing Champion. Mark is a graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in Athletic Training.

Swimming Economy

JOHN MIHEVIC is currently the Swim Coach at the University of Akron. He was formerly Aquatics Assistant Manager at Akron General Lifestyles as well as Head Swim Coach of Revere High School.

Massage Therapy

CAROL KOON is a massage therapist licensed by the Medical Board of Ohio. She is currently employed by Mario's International Spa practicing massage, hydrotherapy, reike, and reflexology. In addition, Carol is employed by the Med Spa division of Mario's in which she conducts lectures to nurses on massage at the University Hospital of Cleveland on the oncology floor. She is an also an instructor at the Ohio College of Massotherapy.

Aromatherapy

SYLLA SHEPPARD-HANGER is the director of The Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy located in Tampa, Florida, which was established in 1989 to provide quality information, education, and certification in the field of Aromatherapy. She completed the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program at Purdue University, Indiana, and she was a founding member of the American Aromatherapy Association (1988).
